What to Do on the Day of your Test
The Candidate Protocol will be provided to all Candidates who register for a test. Its purpose is to:
- Provide Candidates with all relevant information concerning the test.
Provide a list of items prohibited from the test room.
Identify any actions taken by the Candidates that are deemed to be misconduct and the consequences of misconduct.
Inform Candidates of the application process for test accommodation for Candidates with disabilities.
a) Arrival and Sign in
You must arrive at the test centre at your scheduled appointment time. Upon arrival, you must produce original, valid, government issued photo (from any country) identification to commence sign in procedures.
Acceptable Identification Includes:
- Driver's License
- Canadian Citizenship Certificate
- Canadian or foreign passport
- Permanent Resident Card
- Security Guard Licence
- Private Investigator Licence
Candidates will not be permitted to sit the test if they fail to produce a document meeting the above requirements. This will result in test cancellation and the test fee will be forfeited.
Upon completion of sign-in you will be directed to the written test room.
b) Pre-test procedures
The Invigilator at the Test Centre will provide instructions to the candidates.
You will be asked to clear the surface in front of you of personal items. You must store personal items away. All electronic devices (Cell Phones, PDAs, Blackberries etc must be stored and turned off. Only your photo ID may remain on top of your desk.
The invigilator will address any procedural or administrative questions but is not allowed to answer any questions regarding test content.
Test papers will be distributed by the invigilator. They are to be left untouched until otherwise instructed. The invigilator will collect your photo ID when issuing the test papers. The ID will be retained throughout the duration of the test and will be returned when you sign out of the test.
c) Test content information
Each Security Guard and Private Investigator test is 75 minutes in length and contains 60 multiple choice questions.
Each multiple-choice question contains a choice of four (4) possible answers, of which the candidate is to select only one, the best answer.
d) Test materials
All materials required to write the test will be supplied and must be returned at the end of the test. No other materials are allowed.
e) Protocol during test
Candidates may leave the written test room to visit the washroom only with the permission of the invigilator. Only one candidate will be permitted to leave the test room at a time. The invigilator will collect the test materials until their return. Additional time will not be allocated for the time the candidate was away. Candidates who complete their test prior to 15 minutes before the scheduled end time may hand in their test materials to the Invigilator and fill out the sign-out sheet.
Time will be called by the invigilator at the beginning, 15 minutes before the end, and at the end of test.
Candidates are not permitted to leave the room during the last 15 minutes of the test. Those who complete their work during the last 15 minutes must remain quietly seated until the end.
When so instructed, candidates must stop writing and wait for the invigilator to collect all materials and return their ID to them. Failure to do so may result in a fail mark.
The Invigilator will collect the test papers at the end of the session and require each candidate to complete the sign-out sheet.
f) Candidates with disabilities
All test centres are compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). For further information please call 416-225-3788.
g) Misconduct
If the Test Centre Invigilator determines that test security has not been sufficiently maintained, the candidate's test will be terminated and the fee forfeited.
The invigilator may terminate their test and require them to leave the test area if a candidate's conduct is disturbing to other candidates or is disrupting the smooth progress of the test. This includes:
- Talking, communicating or making excessive movement in the test room.
- Passing or sharing materials with other candidates.
- Reading questions and answering loudly, making loud noises.
- Use of electronic devices.
- Smoking, eating or drinking during the test period.
In these cases, the test will be marked as incomplete and the test fees will be forfeited.
Any candidate discovered cheating, using unauthorized materials, removing test material from the test room, or impersonating a test candidate will be assigned a fail mark.
h) Failed, terminated or missed tests
If you miss or fail your test, your fee will be forfeited. You must schedule another test and pay the full test fee prior to re-booking.
i) Result delivery
You will be advised of your results within 5 business days of the test date. You may access your result(s) on our website www.ontariosecuritytesting.ca/test_results.html using your personal identifier (License number and DOB or Confirmation)
